Community Skills Center
We are moving forward with our vision to build a multi purpose training centre to deliver a wide range of learning opportunities to both adults and young people.
We will be able to improve the learning environment for the women’s literacy group - currently the 60 women enrolled on the scheme do their learning sitting on mats in their gardens or sitting on small chairs in the nursery school. We believe the women deserve a better environment to learn in, an environment equipped to ensure they are given the best possible support to develop their skills. This programme is so important for the women who asked for the programme to be provided. We have had comments such as ‘now I can shop in a supermarket and do not feel ashamed’ & ‘ I was blind before but now I see my children’s names on their school papers’
We will look to develop youth and community workers to build a supportive and inclusive programme for young people to get the support they need to make positive choices in their lives eg BKK environmental youth group have already been sharing their knowledge of birds with their peers in Gunjur – spreading the importance of protecting our environment.
We will continue to deliver vital first aid training and health awareness workshops so that people are better equipped to deal with every day emergencies that arise. We will continue to facilitate women’s health information sessions in a purpose built room rather than on a dusty floor.
In a purpose built kitchen we will work with the Gambia college and other institutes to offer a catering programme. We will work with women to enable them to make their fruits and vegetables into jams and chutneys thus starting small business opportunities.
Working with Gambicats and other animal lovers we will offer workshops around looking after animals.
